Went out and dropped spare tire and took the control module off the cross member and noticed the hole corroded through the housing just like the video. I got on the internet and searched no start problem for 2006 F-150 and found a you tube video of the fuel pump control module rusting out. With that I eliminated the ignition had to be fuel. Motor acted like it was going to start but never started beings I didn't give it enough starting fluid to start because I'm not a fan of using it. Gave a little shot of starting fluid into the intake and then tried to start. I tried the starting fluid test to see if it was an ignition problem or fuel problem. Went to start truck and engine would crank but would not fire. Ford had to know about a problem with this component otherwise they wouldn't have changed the design right? It was nice to see that the replacement part has a plastic housing with a couple spacers to move it away from the cross member to possibly eliminate this problem.
The part will eventually rust, crack, and then the fuel pump driver module goes bad. The fuel pump driver module is bolted directly to the frame cross member, and with Minnesota winters snow and road salt get trapped between the two parts.
So all together with parts, labor and tax it cost me $496.88 without including the cost to have the vehicle towed. The fuel pump driver module cost $234.44. I ended up having the vehicle towed to the local shop and after a diagnosis that cost $124.95 they found out that the fuel pump driver module when bad. I tried to start it back up in order to get off the main road but the vehicle didn't start. I really need a job with hours so I can get somewhere besides Advanced while they are open.I was traveling at approximately 55mph when the vehicle started to sputter, and as I began to slow down and tried to pull over to the side of the road before the truck quit on me. I have to remember to expect everything I buy to be wrong or broken. If the replacement is backwards too, I might have to rewire the original which will probably wipe the warranty. It is wired backward so the pump wires go to the sender wires and vise versa. Of course I forgot to post that it was 3.0 AWD. I will be changing it soon, and it looks like I need to make a new bracket. It was a good idea, the bracket the module was bolted to was pretty corroded. I will be sticking to Ford cars only I guess. I didn't know the cross over SUVs were the same way. That is why I swore to never buy a Ford truck. 90% of the time, a "bad fuel pump" on a Ford truck is this module corroded away. Also aluminum and usually severely corroded where it is up against the body/frame. Look for the control module, it's usually under the car in that vicinity, about smartphone-ish sized, six wires. So it is in all probability ground side controlled since they are doing PWM on the pump. The fuel pump gets power and ground from the fuel pump control module, not the fuel pump relay. I have to work so I can't answer any questions until tomorrow evening.Įdit: Just poked around the diagrams. It is in a muddy driveway which makes it fun. I have it on a charger to make sure that isn't the problem.
I don't have time to try to get a Microsoft windows computer running to use the service manual. that seems high, the old one was at 3, that seems low but it didn't pop the fuse. If nothing, then bad fuel pump? The new pump ohms out at 70. I guess my next step is too get another 12V line back there and try to connect to the connector without shorting to the sender. I still have 12V,I also checked with a test light, triple checked the wiring with old one. No start, no fuel coming out of the lines. I bought a new drop in pump ( ouch) and installed it. I switched the relay with another and still no fuel. I pulled the fuel pump relay and had nothing so I know I had the correct wires. I checked the wires going to the pump and found 12V on key on and crank. I pulled the lines off the filter and nothing came out key on or cranked.
I went to check it and I couldn't hear the fuel pump running. My daughters 2005 Escape wouldn't start yesterday.
